Plant pathogenic fungi cause damage to the world's crop production that is valued at many millions of dollars annually. The main means of control is through chemical fungicides, even though these may now be used as part of a more general strategy of integrated pest management, including biological control. New fungicides continue to be developed by agrochemical companies, especially when resistance from pathogens develops to existing formulations.
