Beiser, Karl

Essential Guide to dBASE IV in Libraries Karl Beiser - London Meckler Westport 1991 - xiii, 365p. - Supplements to Computers in libraries 19 .

This book is meant primarily for those who already have acquired a general familiarity with dBase or a dBase-compatible program like dBXL (WordTech Systems Corporation), FoxPro Plus (Fox Software, Inc.) or any one of half a dozen dBase cousins. This book aims to provide a basic understanding of dBase IV, enabling the reader to construct systems to solve library related problems. In the process, a number of techniques and tricks of particular importance in library situations generally are discussed. The author suggests various approaches to using dBase IV and offers a range of techniques illustrated by examples familiar to those working in libraries. All these examples are available on the IBM compatible 3.5" and 5.25" disks which are available separately. The book touches lightly in those areas where general, business-oriented introductory material is plentiful, emphasizing instead the peculiarities of specific library applications. It is aimed at all records managers, information systems analysts, library automation specialists, all public, academic, government and industrial librarians, archivists and data processing administrators.
